As much as I still enjoy learning about photography, I sadly find myself travelling more and more without my camera. There are still occasions where I will take the camera but even with those, the pictures don’t always get beyond being backed up on my computer, let alone anything else. Even though I don’t upload much content at the moment, I do still visit this site on a regular basis and enjoy the pictures of those friends who I follow.

Traveling is what I look forward to the most nowadays, especially when it involves exploring remote mountain regions, or rugged coastlines. Surprisingly 2025 saw me spend more time outside the UK than at any other year in my life. In the past, this time away would have been a challenging experience as I often struggled with the feeling of being disconnected from the island where I was born. That sense of longing to return however, has shifted over recent years and spending more time abroad in places where communication is either very limited or completely non-existent has given me a sense of freedom and space I hadn’t expected, allowing me to focus on the present moment without the constant pull of home.

Sadly, returning to the UK after being away for a while no longer fills me with that exciting and warm feeling I used to experience. In fact, I can't help but notice how the country seems more dilapidated, uncared for, and so fast-paced, which is such a stark difference from the vibrant and laid-back place it used to be.

At the end of this year(2026), I’m about to close one chapter and begin an exciting new one—early retirement! This has been delayed many times over the years and recent events have made me realise life is far too short for me to keep delaying it. It has always been my intention to spend at least a year or two travelling the world after retiring, and watching the BBC series Race Across the World only intensifies that wish.
