522nd MI Battalion
Drag to set position!
The 522d Military Intelligence Service Detachment was created in response to the North Korean invasion of South Korea on 25 June 1950. The fact that the invasion occurred with little/ no warning was a major intelligence failure and it was quickly realized that more intelligence support was needed to on the peninsula to sift through and analyze the aerial collection, field reports, and communication intercepts.
When 522d MI BN’s official activation occurs again it will be the second time in our units history that we will be in Germany.
522d MI BN received its CEWI (Combat Electronic Warfare Intelligence) when it was activated at Ft. Hood, TX under 2d Armored Division. The purpose of a CEWI MI unit was to allow a commander to have control over his intelligence assets as they did for their combat units which previously were handled under separate commands. 522d MI BN was the first CEWI Battalion in the entire US Military. The 522d CEWI test battalion emphasized intelligence training integrated with maneuver elements which placed MI units in a front line role.
