I love to communicate via Photography, the Spoken word, Poetry, Writing & Painting!
Whilst basic cameras 'were always around' when I was growing up, the Photography bug bit me at the age of 19 in 1982. What a fascinating journey it has been! I was involved in the Camera Club world for some 28 years via two clubs, successfully competing in the clubs through to international levels.
What drove me, however, was the growing awareness of capturing the world around me. Light and the effects on the surroundings thereof is what has inspired me in photography over the years.
Whilst I have always been interested in Art/Language, apart from a brief sketching adventure in the 90's, Photography remained 'King' for me. Drawing/Sketching 'bit me' again in 2010 when I took a basic drawing course. I soon started to dabble in painting.
In 2008 I joined Toastmasters International, which has been a real life-changer for me. Writing speeches led me to eventually writing my first poem in 2013. I began writing Haiku Poetry in 2016. I regularly combine my own images (taken either on a DSLR or iPhone) with my Poetry. Occasionally, (rarely) I will use a Google Free Image or image supplied by Canva. Where the image is not mine, I will state the source under the image.
Sketching & Painting came back into my life with renewed vigour back in 2015.
For many years I thought Photography was my passion. I have since discovered that Communication is my passion and have been having fun with all my 'communicative' interests, indeed combining Photography & Poetry and I have a goal to combining Poetry and Public Speaking, Painting & Poetry.
I also have a blog on Wordpress titled, 'Communicating Creatively.'

One of my favourite photographers is Duane Michals, and a few of his quotes have resonated with me over the years:
"I think photographs should be provocative and not tell you what you already know. It takes no great powers or magic to reproduce somebody's face in a photograph. The magic is in seeing people in new ways." - Duane Michals
"I believe in the imagination. What I cannot see is infinitely more important than what I can see." - Duane Michals
Photography gave me a greater awareness of what was around me. Drawing/Sketching & Painting have deepened that awareness. Poetry, Writing & Public Speaking compliment them.
"Trust that little voice in your head that says 'Wouldn't it be interesting if...'; And then do it." - Duane Michals.
