Jeff Stookey is the author of the novel trilogy Medicine for the Blues set in 1923. This Flickr page shows a collection of vintage photos from that era.

Growing up in a small town in rural Washington State, Jeff Stookey enjoyed writing stories. He studied literature, history, and cinema at Occidental College, and later got a BFA in Theater from Fort Wright College. He worked in the graphic arts in Seattle for 13 years, then in his 40s he retrained in the medical field and worked for years with pathologists, trauma surgeons, and emergency room reports. This medical background led to the creation of the character Carl Holman MD, while a deep dive into gay history and Oregon’s past shaped much of the rest of the trilogy. A novel writing class at The Attic Institute, A Haven for Writers, and a year with a creative writing group helped him bring this story out of the closet.

Jeff lives in Portland, Oregon, with his longtime partner, Ken, and their unruly garden.
