Sukhmanch literally means a stage that makes gives happiness; happiness both to the audiences and to the performers. Sukhmanch Theatre is an initiative by Ms. Shilpi Marwaha to create a platform for theatre enthusiasts to learn the craft of theatre and at the same time evolve towards being better individuals in the society through street and stage theatre performances.

Shilpi Marwaha is a renowned name in Delhi Theatre Circuit and beyond. She has been active in theatre for over a decade and has been a leading voice particularly against woman atrocities through her street plays. One of great contributions to theatre has been reviving the street plays. Her passion, commitment and charismatic presence has uplfited the street play scenario and has made it appear cool and attractive to youth of today.

Some of her popuplar stage plays include the path breaking solo, "A Woman Alone" of Franca Rame has been descibed as one of the boldest plays in the country. She has also worked in "Ramakali", an adapation of The Good Woman of Szechwan, Dario Fo's Chukayenge Nahi(adaptation of Cant pay wont pay) & Operation Three Star, G D Deshpande's Raaste, Rajesh Kumar's Ambedkar Aur Gandhi & Hindu Code Bill, Swadesh Deepak's Court Martial, Premchand's Moteram Ka Satyagrah, Mohan Rakesh's Lehron Ke Rajhans amongst many others.

She has not only been active in theatre but done both mainstream and parrallel cinema in form movies like "Raanjhana" directed by Anand L Rai, Inheritors of Earth by T V Chandran. She has been part of myriads of documentaries, shows and worked with oscar award winning director Ross Kaufman. She won the best actress award in 2010 in the "international short and sweet festival". She was also the face of the national award winning documentary on the Nirbhaya Andolan called "Daughters of Mother India" directed by Vibha Bakshi. Receipient of awards from Delhi Commission for Woman, AAS and many others, Ms. Marwaha has not just been involved in theatre as an actor but has earned quite a repute as an actor trainer. She has conducted workshops all over the country in various leading institutions like IIT DELHI, IT-BHU, IIM's, Delhi University, Shoolini University, Katha(NGO), working with street children and conducting workshops for school children as well. *Many of her trained actors are now working in the Indian film and television industry in different capacities and a few have turned actor trainers themselves*. *Shilpi has also penned down three stories namely, "Apratyaksh", a love story of an Eunuch, "Kaash", intercaste love saga, "Purity" on the slut shaming tendencies of the society and "Rangmanch" elucidating the struggles involved in the life of an aspiring actor trying to fulfill his dream. All these dramas have been enacted on stage and been very well received by the audiences.* Losing a colleague to a road accident made Ms. Marwaha adapt Anton Chekov's classic story, "Misery" for the modern day audience adding her personal touch to it.

Losing her mother at an early age due to medical negligence had a deep and devastating impact on Ms. Marwaha. It was this blow that made her take up socio political theatre as her career as she wanted to dedicate her life for raising her voice against the injustice and inequality prevelant in the society. It was this zest of Ms. Marwaha that she became one of the leading voice in the anti corruption crusade and also took the lead in the protests in the "Nirbhaya andolan". She has performed thousands of street plays to raise awareness on atrocities against women and continues to do so on various other topics like farmer suicides, acid attack, environment, voting awareness etc.

Ms. Marwaha decided to begin the group in 2017 in the memory of her late beloved mother whom she lost at a young age and whose name "Sukhvarsha" inspired the name of her group. Her vision is not just create good actors but also give the society sensitive and aware individuals.

*शिल्पी मरवाह*, थिएटर जगत की एक मंझी हुई अदाकारा है। कॉलेज के दिनों से ही शिल्पी रंगमंच से जुड़ी रही है, एक दशक से ज़्यादा काम करने के बावजूद, शिल्पी और रंगमंच का रिश्ता आज भी उतना ही गहरा है। बचपन मे मंच पर जाने के भय से झूझ रही लड़की आज थिएटर जगत की मल्लिका मानी जाती है और लोगों के दिलों में राज करती है। शिल्पी एक ऐसी शख्सियत हैं, जो ना सिर्फ़ रंगमंच तक अपने को सीमित रखें हैं, बल्कि गली गली घूम घूम कर अपने नुक्कड़ नाटकों द्वारा जनता को जागृत करने का भी प्रयास किया है। शिल्पी ने पिछले बारह वर्षों में क़रीब सैंकड़ों रंगमंच के नाटक और हज़ारों से भी ज़्यादा नुक्कड़ नाटकों में भाग लिया जिनमें की मुख्य रूप से Bertolt Brecht के नाटक "The Good Person of Szechwan" का हिंदी रूपांतरण "रामकली", महेश दत्तानी का "तारा", "30 days in September", स्वदेश दीपक का "कोर्ट मार्शल", गिरीश कर्नाड का "रक्त कल्याण", राजेश कुमार का "अम्बेडकर और गांधी" व "हिंदू कोड बिल", मोहन राकेश का "लहरों के राज हंस", फ़िल्म निर्माता महेश भट्ट का बहु चर्चित नाटक, "Last Salute", Dario Fo का "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" व "Can't pay? Won't pay!" इत्यादि। शिल्पी का हाल ही में सबसे लोकप्रिय और उनका पहला एकल नाटक रहा "A Women Alone" जिसमें वो एक शादी शुदा महिला के संघर्ष व मैरिटल रेप जैसे गम्भीर मुद्दों को दर्शकों के सामने बख़ूबी दर्शाती है और दर्शकों को सोचने पर मजबूर करती है । और इस नाटक को भारत का सबसे बोल्ड नाटक भी कहा गया है। नुक्कड़ नाटकों में शिल्पी ने अपनी पहचान "दस्तक" नाटक के रूप में बनायी जिसमें वे महिलायों की सुरक्षा व उनके समान हक़ों की आवाज़ उठाती हैं। इस नाटक को शिल्पी ने इतना लोकप्रिय किया की आज यह भारत में जगह जगह अपने तरीके से किया जा रहा है। और शिल्पी को "काले कुर्ते की मशाल" जैसी उपाधी से लोगों ने नवाज़ा।

शिल्पी ने २०१३ में आनंद एल राय की चर्चित फ़िल्म "रानझना" में एक अहम भूमिका निभाई और नैशनल अवार्ड विजेता टी वी चंद्रन की फ़िल्म "Inheritance of Earth " में भी काम किया। २०१५ में "निर्भया कांड" पर आधारित "Daughters of Mother India" में भी काम किया व इसके पोस्टर्ज़ पर नज़र आयीं।

शिल्पी ने २०१६ के हॉलीवुड के "Fringe Festival", Los Angeles में भी भाग लिया।

शिल्पी दिल्ली यूनिवर्सिटी के कैम्पस थीयटर में भी काफ़ी सक्रिय रही हैं, और देश भर के आईआईटी व आईआईएम में भी एक अभिनेत्री के रूप में व नवोदित कलाकारों के मार्गदर्शक के रूप में काम करती आयी हैं।

२०१२ के दामिनी आन्दोलन में आपने एक अहम भूमिका निभायी और अपने कला के माध्यम से महिलायों के हक़ों के लिए शिल्पी अपनी आवाज़ उठाती रही है। इनके इसी जज़्बे और जुनून को पहचान कर ऑस्कर विजेता निर्देशक "Ross Kauffman" भारत आए शिल्पी पे एक डॉक्युमेंटरी बनाने के लिए। शिल्पी को उनके बेजोड़ काम और अथक समाज निर्माण कि कोशिशों के लिए,अनेको अवॉर्ड्ज़ और सम्मान भी मिलें हैं। जिनमें मुख्यतः दिल्ली सरकार द्वारा सम्मान, दिल्ली कमिशन फ़ॉर विमन के द्वारा ८ मार्च २०१६ के वोमेंस डे पर ख़ास सम्मान, सरला देवी बिरला अवार्ड की प्रथम प्राप्तकर्ता, २०१६ का "AAS एक्सेलेन्स अवार्ड", अभिरंग नाट्य संस्थान, हिंदू कॉलेज द्वारा "नयी दृष्टि" पुरस्कार, श्री शक्ति मंच द्वारा सम्मान, अमिताभ श्रीवास्तव द्वारा मो. वसीम आज़ाद युवा रंगकर्मी सम्मान आदि। २०१० के "इंटर्नैशनल शॉर्ट एंड स्वीट" थीयटर फ़ेस्टिवल में "शेक्स्पीर ऑफ़ शॉर्ट प्लेज़" कहलाये जाने वाले ऑस्ट्रेलिया के ऐलेक्स ब्राउन ने शिल्पी को बेस्ट ऐक्ट्रेस के अवार्ड से सम्मानित किया।

लेकिन इन सबके पीछे उनका एक और चेहरा भी है। अधेड़ उम्र में ही अपनी माँ को खो देने वाली शिल्पी थीयटर में नवोदित कलाकारों, जिनमें ज़्यादातर कलाकार उनसे भी बड़ी उम्र के होते हैं, उनके लिए एक माँ, एक पथ प्रदर्शक और सहायक के रूप में भी उभरी हैं । सिनमा जगत से लगातार आकर्षक प्रलोभन के बाद भी उनका थीयटर से जुड़े रहने एक बहुत बड़ा कारण उनका अपने स्टूडेंट्स से लगाव है। जो भी उनके निर्देशन में काम करके निकले वो उनके व्यक्तित्व व ममत्व के कसीदे पढ़ते हैं। यही एक कारण था,की उन्होंने मार्च २०१७ में अपनी माँ के नाम से "सुखमंच थीयटर" नामक संस्थान शुरू करने का फ़ैसला लिया। जिससे न सिर्फ़ वो कला के माध्यम से लोगों को समाज सुधार के लिए प्रेरित कर सकें अपितु सैंकड़ों नवोदित कलाकारों को भी एक सही दिशा देने में सहयोगी बनें। शिल्पी अपनी सफलता का श्रेय अपनी माँ को ही देती हैं और उनका यह थीयटर संस्थान अपनी माँ को ही समर्पित करती हैं।वो कहती हैं मेरी यह संस्थान दर्शकों व कलाकारों दोनों को सुख प्रदान करे, यही प्रयास है।
