Shelby-Lynn Jefferies is a student in Prince George, British Columbia working to complete her second year of photography. She was originally born in Fort ST. John but moved to Prince George at the age of 3 where she started on her journey through art. During school Shelby was able to cultivate her art practice through many different mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, beading, and needle work, but it wasn't until she tried a photography class in Gr. 9 that she was able to see the world from a different perspective. Photography opened her eyes to the beauty of the world, even in the most simplest of things, and that's really what Shelby tries to capture through her artwork. While a variety of materials and processes are used in each project her methods and approach to the pieces are consistent. Although there may not always be similarities between the materials used the different projects are linked through the subject matter and message she tries to spread. Shelby likes to take shots of something simple, like a flower or someone smiling, and showcase its beauty. She likes to use different perspectives in her photos that might seem a little strange at first but really lead your eye throughout the image and and make you look at it in a different light. Shelby primarily focuses on landscape and nature photography but does enjoy taking portrait shots. She also likes to use very abstract ideas and conveys that through her images. Shelby presents the emotions in her pieces not just through the subject but by the colour as well. Her artwork is generally more colourful but she does sometime use black and white for a more gritty or gloomy image.
