Budapest – Bamako Rally: Great Africa Run
Wherever the Need is pleased to partner the Budapest – Bamako Rally: Great Africa Run, as it goes to the very heart of our work.
The Budapest (Hungary) – Bamako (Mali): Great African Run is a unique rally starting from the heart of Europe and finishing in the soul of West Africa. It is more than just a car race; its a unique experiment in direct community-to-community charitable giving.
In addition to carrying and distributing tonnes of medical supplies, clothes and toys, the hundreds of participants in the rally are planning to sponsor a well in a poor district of Bamako.
Kalabankoro is one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Malian capital with little or no running water. Each year hundreds of children lose their lives because of waterborne illnesses.
A new well would mean fewer child deaths and children could spend more time at school and less time walking long distances for clean drinking water.
The digging of the well is estimated at 10,000 Euros and we must reach this target by November 1st, 2007.
All donors are invited to the Kalabankoro well inaguration ceremony on January 28, 2008 in Bamako, Mali.
