I'm on a quest to survey fireflies in across the Commonwealth!

My name is Ariel, and I'm a firefly scientist at UVA in the department of Environmental Sciences. My research seeks to understand how fireflies may be affected by human land use changes such as urbanization.

Join me on my journey to find out where fireflies are (and where they are not), how many there are, and how many different species there are in backyards dotting the Old Dominion.
