I was born in Ankara in 1966. I currently live in Istanbul. Living photographs moves around 24hrs/7days a week in this old and chaotic city. I just try to pick them up with my cameras and lenses in a level that my knowledge, ability, eyes and mind allows. On film mostly, novadays...

I was always curious about photography since my childhood. My first SLR was a cheap Zenit of USSR in the high school which had a problem in its shutter curtain. It had a frequent habit to expose frames at various speeds from one side to other as per it will. So, many times I had frames lighter on its left and darker on its right. It was not a fun at that time yet make me smile to recall now.

In the university and later I took lots of slides with various cameras and lenses. That was a part of work at those beatiful days, to study and conserve the Mediterranean monk seal in Turkey. That was for the Underwater Search Society, to which I am a "pioneer member". I used mostly a good, strong and depandable Canon F1 which was gifted us by Mr Matthias Schnellmann and a Nikonos V. I took only slide film with limited project budgets.

We all took slides and thought it was better. Sort of stupidity and I am regretful now not taken b/w also which was much cheaper. I could better document the life of fishermen around me.

Than the digital age hit us. It became harder first and than almost impossible to have slide films developed or even find. We could not afford best available comtemporary digital cameras and bought some fixed lens things. When I sold my boat I bought a Panasonic DMC-FZ20 with some portion of the money left in my hand after I payed some debts. I used it for many years but did not get much test out of digital.

A few years back I bought a Canon EOS-M. This was better in many ways. But... I did not feel the "images" taken by it are "real" photographs. I liked to create some short video documentaries with my EOS-M. It took some time for me to realize and accept it was not a correct tool for such a purpose. Yet, meantime I discovered that there was a market of old good analog lenses even in Turkey and I bought some to use for video.

When I gave up with video thing, I thought if analog lenses were around there should be the cameras as well and I suddenly turned back to early days in 1980's. Now I take photographs (real ones, not digital images) with my two Canon A-1 and a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD. Black and white mostly... EOS-M is apointed to "scanner" position in the new work flow. Years later, again I have a desire to take photographs.
