Pongaroa is a small town in the Tararua district on the east coast of the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand. Some months ago we lost our garage and petrol station meaning residents have to drive at least 60 kilometers to fill up. Tourists face a 120km journey before being able to get petrol.

The community got together and organised funding for a new one on a new site. In partnership with a fuel supplier a committee has organised a new site and the wherewithal to build a new one. It will provide petrol and diesel 24/7 and even have a charge station for electrically powered vehicles. A portion of the income generated will be used to reinvest in the community.

This site and the Pongaroa The Way To Go web site and facebook page will keep you up to date on the progress.
