The Hypocrites were founded in 1997 to take a different look at theater. Widely recognized as the avante garde theatrical force in Chicagoland, the company has received critical acclaim for productions ranging from Henry V to Happy Days to new adaptations of classic works.

 

The company has produced 37 mainstage productions and 8 festival pieces, receiving 11 Jeff Citations and 2 After Dark Awards.

 

The Hypocrites are dedicating their 2007 - 2008 Season to reviosining classic works, launching the season with Desire Under the Elms in 2007. The season will finish in 2008 with a new adaptation of Miss Julie and Thornton Wilder's classic "Our Town."

 

In addition to their Chicago season, The Hypocrites are going on the road in November, 2007 to New York, NY with The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide. Participating as part of the Go Chicago! festival at 59E59 Theatres, The Hypocrites are excited to take the stage in the company of Steppenwolf and Writer's Theatre.
