Hi,

My Flickr images represents what my interests are, engineering, railways and canals. Images from an average photographer I hope you enjoy and get pleasure from them as they gave me pleasure being behind the camera.

Engineering - born in Leeds I have a strong affinity with the great engineering traditions of the city and the famous names that produced goods sent around the world. These include the locomotive builders such as Hunslet, Hudswell Clarke, Fowlers and Manning Wardle. Now retired, I spent my engineering career in the crane industry so names such as Thomas Smith and Joseph Booth feature.

Railways - I have fond early memories that include being by the east coast mainline watching trains pass and the Talyllyn, Festiniog and Vale of Rhiedol Railways. My preference is for scruffy tank engines rather than shiny expresses, this led to photographing industrial railways with a love of both steam and diesel. The early exposure to the Welsh narrow gauge has left a deep fondness for them. Never a modeller but I have now taken to garden railways and I'm now building one. I also part own three standard gauge locos and I am involved in railway preservation.

Canals - they say canal enthusiasts are frustrated railway enthusiasts, I enjoy both, owning a narrow boating I can get away and enjoy the simple pleasures at a snail's pace. You are surrounded equally by the industrial brutality and incredible natural beauty of the canals where I admire the engineering monuments built by the navvies.
