The ‘Carlyle Chasers’ are a team of London Library staff raising funds for the 175th Anniversary Appeal.

They work throughout the Library in Bibliographic Services, Development, Facilities Management, IT and Member Services.

The team comprises:

Alasdair;

Aritz whose previous running experience includes the 800m running of the bulls race in Pamplona when he was 12;

Claudia whose secret is a good I-pod playlist & countryside views;

Eleanor who is training in Regent's Park so she can be distracted by waving at giraffes in the zoo!

Hayley who finds the maps & statistics on her running phone app addictive;

Johnny whose dream running destination is Mars...where less gravity=less muscle pains;

Julian whose top tip is slow down when it hurts;

Micheál who is running due to peer pressure & whose goal is “to not finish last";

Sam who is inspired by Haruki Murakami’s marathon running & his novels;

Sinéad whose training injuries to date include sprained ankles & running into a tree!

175 years old, and still running!

The Carlyle Chasers spend their days working at the London Library, ordering and cataloguing new acquisitions, issuing books to members or reshelving material in the Library book stacks. But for the past few months their evenings and weekends have been spent pounding the pavements to increase their fitness.

We have challenged ourselves to take up running, or to run farther or faster than we have previously. We hope our training pays off and ensures that we can each complete either a 5k or 10k 'RunThrough' in neighbouring Hyde Park on Sunday 2nd October.

The Carlyle Chasers have decided to fund-raise for the London Library’s 175th Anniversary Appeal, to celebrate this historic milestone and raise funds to help maintain the Library’s most fundamental activities. You can find out more about the London Library's 175th Anniversary Appeal on the Library's website: www.londonlibrary.co.uk/175
