St. Mary's Industrial Training Institute was started in 1914 by Belgian Priest, Rev. Fr. R.H. Michotte, MEP, with carpentry and blacksmithy. The two trades were recognized by the then Madras Presidency in 1917 and 1921 respectively. Subsequently, three more trades, namely, Fitter, Welder and Motor Mechanic were added in 1965. They were recognized by the Government the same year.
Every year about 150 trainees go out the portals of this institution, fully equipped for the future, well-trained in one trade or another. Now, this institution is offering the following 6 Trades recognized by the Government of Tamilnadu, affiliated to the NCVT of Government of India.
