Rolf Stumpf, born in 1969, is a German photographer and author with a degree in engineering geology.

Ten years into the hobby of railfanning he gained interest in North American railroading. A lot of trips should follow, where he covered mainline action, ore trains in Labrador, obscure shortlines and rare diesels.

His photography appeared in numerous books, magazines, calendars in Europe and North America. He authored two highly acclaimed books on German railway history, the first was published at the age of 27. From 2000 through 2015 Rolf Stumpf was editor of a series of magazine special issues published by the German publisher Eisenbahn Kurier, creating seven volumes.

With his own publishing business he produced audio documentaries on CD and a few videos on DVD and Blu-Ray from 1998 through 2015.

His latest self-published book, titled OVERLAND, is a 230-page coffeetable book based on a four-week trip along Union Pacific's Overland Route from Council Bluffs to the Pacific Ocean. Since April 2021 it is available from Blurb.com.
