I thought I would try using the paint.net app that came with my 2nd hand laptop to add color to hand-drawn designs - then try a repeating design suitable for printing on fabric. I picked a few designs I liked from Pinterest to use for inspiration - Josef Frank, Liberty of London, Japanese textiles. Maybe later I'll want to invest in a different design app but better to start with something simple.
