Welcome to seven seconds of my life ! ...

You shoulda been there ! ...

I was there ! ...

Really ?

From the lenses of many different cameras, through my eyes, this is the story of railroading, ships and aircraft in British Columbia as I seen it living, playing, growing up and working in the 60's , 70's and beyond in the lower mainland and elsewhere, around the province and the US Pacific Northwest. I hope you'll go to my albums and snoop around. Most of the photo's are from 35mm and 120 conventional film cameras. More recent still's work is done in digital format. I do also maintain a similar unorganized video library, both tape and digital, covering the same like subjects, some of which can be viewed at - www.youtube.com/channel/UCtf8CjbuYA1z1C1QLyA9lAQ?view_as=....

These pages are a labour of love. All of the film images have been digitally scanned here for the first time. For many, I have never seen the positive image bigger than a contact thumbnail. For more current aircraft photographs see my postings at - flightaware.com/user/ontheisland?fbclid=IwAR1ZRX1UxwnpQdD... . Be patient and come back often. I encourage scrutiny and criticism, not so much on style, (I do the best I can) but on the subjects, locations and dates recorded. Please comment with anything you would like to add to help preserve this photographic record of our times. Links and memories are encouraged.

Below are my current most thoughts and announcements -

About dates - currently I am having a problem posting April dates, they show up as March. Take the date in the photograph code in the description as the correct date.

You know, I find it interesting whilst doing all this scanning, to see what was. When I was there, it was in the here and now ! Now, its all OLD ! Or gone ! Didn't seem like that took long.

About my film picture quality - So, yes there are some "bad" pics here but I figure a few bad pics is better than no pic at all ! Lots of different cameras and metering systems at play on my pages, combined with life events, money , location and education make for some less than great photos. At the time, I seemed to favour Kodak Ektachrome and Tri-X along with cheap competitors like GAF, FUJI ( which when it first came out was very inferior) Kits chrome and the like. Lower speed ASA's were difficult for me, like Pan-X and Kodachrome, although I did have some excellent results, I found them to be a struggle. All this combined with some maybe not so good storage options over the years and some slides that could be remounted to remove the bow for a better scan make this project a lot of work. If it wasn't for being able to digitally remove dust , which is very time consuming , I'da quit by now !

You even gonna see my junk !

You know, I never realized how convenient digital was until I took on this project. Usually, if I display a digital pic, if its a serious pic, I've taken 6 or so shots of what you will see once. Its cheap ! Its really no cost at all. In the days of film, a 36 exposure roll of say Kodachrome was gift from mana ! If I remember somewhat correctly, in Canada in the mid seventies it would have been about $7.50 which would include processing and mounting.

Think of this ... thats 21, or $0.21 each time you pressed the shutter ! I just figured this in 2019 $ and it come to a buck a shot ! Boy you'd sure not be taking pics like you do now eh ? It took 2 hours to earn that roll of film then ! If you didn't get it right the first time or maybe 2nd, if it was really important or night stuff maybe a 3rd shot. Maybe after all that, just shit ! Out of 36 exposures I'm lucky on the average to have gotten say less than 50% good pics. That just made that $7.50 a roll $15.00 ! Its the mid '70s peeps ! In other words, I paid $7.50 for 18 pics, not 36. Oh, and don't forget the 3,4,5, ... times opening the back before rewinding !

It took a while for me to get the grasp of stuff while always changing the quality of recording device and formats. Jeez, I'll never forget getting a camera with a light meter INSIDE ! Humph, kinda like todays digital stuff too. I'll be ranting when I need a new iMac again .

And thats why you gonna see my junk too !

If you are seeking historical accuracy ( rivet counter) in any of my photographs you may want to request that I furnish an unrestored original. Dust is bad if your printing with an enlarger, but I find dust in my digital scans sometimes overbearing. It takes awhile to get rid of on some scans, not long on others, exposure and colour correction can and most likely even been done on most scans too. The short of it is I digitally remove blemishes of the original negative then any distractions within the exposure, which means, I may have mistaken that rare woodpecker for a blemish, or one bolt had distracting light etcetera. Rest assured, there will never be any less, than what you see !

Thanks for all the enjoyment that I've experienced today while looking through your Flickr album. Thanks also for your dedicated work over the years in photographing these items of transportation history. It is appreciated.
