PHOTOS TO BE ADDED WHEN TIME ALLOWS - 640 SCANNED SLIDES
Welcome to my Flickr site, the main purpose of this site is to display photographs taken since the 19th Century of my family and friends along with my main two hobby's railways and tramways. Why is it called 'Ian10B'? The reason is that for a short period of time in the 1960's '10B' was the British Railways steam locomotive shed code for Preston and later Blackpool North, the two places that I am connected with.

NOTE: All the photos displayed on this site are displayed to give everyone pleasure in viewing them and I have set Flickr settings to prevent them from being downloaded. Despite this several images have been “lifted” and placed on to other websites including facebook. Therefore please note that you do NOT have my permission to copy, reproduce, manipulate, publish or distribute on any medium (including websites and blogs) without explicit written permission. In particular on Bispham... Past and Present, Blackpool Past - The Original! and History of Blackpool and any other local history groups. This also applies to all railway, tram, tramway, bus and trolleybus groups. The best way to let others see a photograph is to make a direct link this Flickr page. © All rights reserved. As far as it is known Information relating to each image was correct on the date of downloading.
Photographs on here have mainly been taken by myself, my family or friends. If possible I always try and credit each photograph to the actual photographer and I am very grateful to them for kindly allowing me to display photographs taken by them over the years. There are also some pre digital camera photographs on here which over the years I have bought or they have been given to me. These images simply say “Ian 10B collection” as the original photographer or source of the photograph is unknown. I will remove any of these photos if anyone can prove that they own the original negative / colour slide / copyright and does not want them displayed on here.
COLOUR SLIDES
August 1968 - August 2011, I took around 18,000 colour slides, of these 14,700 were scanned and digitally enhanced over a seven year period 2015 - 2023 and they have been/will be placed on to here by the end of 2025.
JIM INGHAM COLLECTION
Some years after the death of my good friend Jim Ingham who sadly died suddenly in May 1980 his widow Maureen offered me his collection of slides, photographs, black & white negatives and tramway memorabilia. I bought these from her. Stuart Ibbotson and I then split the slides between us and I also retained the majority of his black and white prints and all the negatives. Any remaining slides and some of his tramway memorabilia were then sold at Fylde Tramway Society (FTS) meetings to help raise funds for the restoration of Blackpool Brush railcoach 298 (635). In 2011 in order to make space at my house anything remaining tramway memorabilia was donated to the Lancastrian Transport Trust, now renamed Fylde Transport Trust. The majority of Jim's slides that I own have now been scanned and are/will be displayed on here. The photographs and negatives have yet to be scanned, hopefully during 2025/2026. I own the copyright for all images taken by Jim Ingham that are displayed in my flickr photo-stream
PAUL HENRY ABELL COLLECTION
My friend Paul Abell who I had known for 51 years died suddenly in October 2021. In August 2022 I was offered all his transport slides by his family. In October 2022 I acquired all of his tramway, trolleybus and bus slides that I was interested in mainly Blackpool, Bradford, Isle of Man, Portugal and Canada covering the years 1970 – 1975. Another friend agreed to take all his railway and aircraft slides and he had many of these scanned during 2022/2023. I have also had Paul's slides that were added to my collection scanned and these will be placed on flickr during 2024/2025 as time permits. The remainder of the tram slides were then sold by the family to an enthusiast in the midlands.
OTHER TRAMWAY NEGATIVES AND SLIDES GIVEN TO ME
Over the years I have been given around 20 original black & white negatives and prints from other tramway enthusiasts of photographs that they had taken. Some of these have still to be scanned and they include photographs of Blackpool and Llandudno trams taken by Keith Pearson and Nigel Jolliffe.
RESCUED PRINTS AND SLIDES
During 1985/1986 I was given several hundred black & white photographs which were being disposed of, these were taken between the 1930’s and the 1960’s by Blackpool photographers Saidman Brothers. Many of the negatives some of which were glass plate no longer exist and I know that I in some cases I have the only copies of the photos many of which are 10” x 8” or 7” x 5” hence the good quality of them. If it was not for a friend and I many of these would have simply been thrown away at that time, these include photos of the demolition of the Palace buildings and the building of the Lewis’s store in Blackpool. I gave any duplicates I had to Ted Lightbown of the Blackpool Historical Society. Most of these photographs have now been scanned
County Surveyor's Department, Lancashire County Council
From 1967 the majority of Lancashire County Councils County Surveyors Department photographs and archives were kept in the basement of ‘Guild House’ Cross Street, Preston. During the early l990’s a clear out of a section of the basement began and I managed to rescue from disposal a few slides and some opening brochures for the motorways that were built in the North West (Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside).
In the mid – late 1990’s one of my work colleagues and friend Mike Stevens started to sort out what was left so that it could be transferred to the Lancashire County Council Records Office on Bow Lane, Preston. Unfortunately Mike became seriously ill and his efforts ceased, by this time I had moved jobs and was working in Blackpool otherwise I would have continued his project. Sadly in the end most of the photographs, plans and slides of the construction of motorways and other major road schemes in the North West were destroyed when the building was vacated a few years later. Some of very few photographs, slides and opening brochures that I rescued in the early 1990’s that i now own have now been scanned and placed on here, more will be added from 2023. I just wish that I had managed to save more of the rare photographs from destruction.

Railways (UK) Tramways (UK & World-wide)
I have also placed on here a few railway photographs taken between 1966 and 1968 of locomotives in the Blackpool and Preston area. These are mainly black and white photos scanned from 3" by 3" prints and are not good quality. Unfortunately the negatives for these photos were lost in the Summer of 1970, so it's not possible to reprint them. I took black and white and also a few colour prints for about three years before going over to colour slides on Tuesday 06 August 1968 just five days before the end of steam on British Railways. My last slide was taken on Saturday 02 July 2011.

Hi Ian, I have favoured several of your photographs and included some in my Gallery "BLACKPOOL Etc. selected by Cd" www.flickr.com/photos/kitdb... I hope that you are OK with that. Thanks Chris d.

I don't normally, but I felt I had to write a few words about Ian's collection. I think his photos are what Flickr is all about, anyone can snap with a digital camera - but many of these images come from a time when the picture was a precious memory - originally important for the love one in the image and now still important for the social history recorded forever in the background. I have found our interests overlap constantly and been able to fill gaps in my groups from Ian's pictures. His images are carefully copied and his use of sets and tags is first rate. So thank you Ian for sharing your pictures. Rob
