My journey in photography (in the mid 1960s) began with a gift of a Delta 127 4X4, given by my maternal grandparents. Something exciting happened within me upon receiving my first prints back from that camera.
In my late 20s, I owned a Minolta XG1. Mostly shot black & white as I had the good fortune of access to a darkroom. What an exciting time! The photography of Ansel Adams had a tremendous impact on me.
I now practice with an Olympus OMD EM-5, Mark II. Initially, I didn't subscribe to the digital era, but now embrace it wholeheartedly.
I make exposures based upon what appeals to me. Rarely do I take my gear out with a specific plan, although sometimes I do. Conventions are OK, such as the Thirds rule in composition, but beyond that, I do what speaks to me. Some of my best photos have come about as suggestions by others, and I am forever grateful to them. I second-guess myself often, and I think I've missed out. Yet, when I just allow my viewfinder to roam, I find inspiration. Sometimes, my inspiration doesn't occur until I bring the file into post-production. It is a very personal thing with me.
I find this world to be chaotic. When I'm overwhelmed by the world, I find great comfort and peace in the viewfinder.
