"This place really is the last word in cake design. Elin Katz has been decorating cakes on Robertson blvd. for 20 years. With a team of Art School grads in her kitchen, there’s nothing they can’t make."
"A sculptor trained in the fine arts, Rosebud Cakes owner Elin Katz credits the wild and exaggerated work of artist Red Grooms for inspiring some of her more insouciant designs: a funky car-shaped cake, for example, rendered in a way that's part sketch and part polished realism. Her kids' cakes are indulgently flavored--Bavarian cream with fudge, chocolate chips and raspberry--topped with undulating mythical figures based on fairytales."

"If you can dream it, they can bake it. Hazelnut, carrot, banana, tiramisu….the list goes on. After sampling about seven, they certainly proved their skills."
"After talking to Elin Katz about some of her past creations, including a life sized candy and cake wonderland, I really wanted to know if Rosebud cakes ever had any limits. I decided to ask if they could bake an entire petting zoo, the size of my backyard. Without missing a beat, she replied “Would you like sound effects for the animals”?

"The wedding of basketball giant Shaquille O'Neal and Shaunie Nelson was infused with a decidedly regal theme, from the diamond-studded crown adorning the ring box to a wedding cake resting on a sleigh. The multi-tiered confection by Rosebud Cakes was fashioned in the shape of silver-tassled cushions and topped with a tiara.
Rosebud Cakes also concocted the six-tier cake encased in white frosting which was delivered to the Malibu estate of TV executive Marcy Carsey for the wedding of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.
From Barbara Streisand & James Brolin to Motown giant Barry Gordy and fashion guru Richard Tyler etc. etc. Rosebud made their day, one to remember."

Splendora says:
There are no cakes to eat, in the display case of this premiere custom cake design studio, but those in the know start salivating as they walk in the door. Owner Elin Katz produces a plate of samples (the lemon mousse and marble with mocha chip filling are to die for) for you to nibble on as you look through thick photo albums of original creations--there's everything from magnificent multi-tiered wedding cakes with cascades of flowers to airbrushed edible paintings to height-defying sculptures with a wry sense of humor. Elin and her designers definitely encourage your input to create the cake of your dreams. Give the team at least two weeks to produce; you'll be so impressed with the result, it'll be hard to divvy it up.

"Actually a cake design studio rather than a traditional bakery, Rosebud Cakes creates artistic cakes that would be perfect for bringing something truly unique to a holiday party. Cakes made with only natural ingredients come in chocolate, hazelnut, poppyseed, lemon, white, marble, banana, tiramisu and a special spice available for the holiday season. Almost endless choices for fillings include white chocolate hazelnut cream, praline and chocolate ganache; marzipan cream and apricot; and pistachio cream and raspberry. Cakes can be decorated in any number of ways like with a menorah, dreidel or snowman, so it’s really important to go to the studio and discuss what you are looking for with the staff. Prices for cakes begin at $300, and it’s recommended that you give them two weeks notice. Fourteen days may seem like a long time to wait, but it’s worth the impression you’ll leave with family and friends."

"The cakes themselves are taking new shapes. Elin Katz, owner of Rosebud Cakes in Beverly Hills, Calif., says brides want different cakes than their mothers did. "Cakes are more art-inspired," she explains. "Brides like cakes that are shaped quite differently than rounds or squares and with more graphic design and geometric patterns."
"Katz, who makes 500 wedding cakes a year with her staff of eight, says the majority of brides still want white or ivory frosting, but adds that the minority who want something different is getting bigger."
"She recalls a bride and groom who requested a haunted house cake with the couple standing at the front door for a Halloween wedding."

Words can't describe the works of art Rosebuds creates out of cakes!! Their designs and possibilities are endless. I originally walked past their window and always admired their products from afar thinking I couldn't afford to buy from them. But when I finally went in to see for myself I was pleasantly surprised at their reasonable prices for the product they create. While they are still on the high end of pricing...they should be! Their cakes are amazing! I had them do the Callalily cake for my wedding and people still talk about it....2 years later!! Rosebud Cakes are worth every bite and every penny!
"Elin says she tries to follow her clients' guidelines in creating a cake. "If we know where they are getting married, like on a beach, we will do an ocean theme."
For inspiration, Elin says she draws from art deco, art nouveau and art history. "I like to take elements that I see happening in classical or contemporary art."

“Flat is just not a word used around here,” Elin Katz says of the fantastical confections she whips up at Rosebud Cakes. She (and her eight helpers) can create just about anything you can imagine for a birthday (or a wedding or a whatever), whether it’s a 3-D Pocahontas bearing your child’s visage, Godzilla tromping the Big Apple, or a bunny munching on a heart-shaped cake. One couple dreamed up a fairy-tale castle, complete with moat and working electric train, for their one-year-old. While you flip through the photo books, you’ll be offered a plateful of samples to nibble on. Prices range from $300 to (gulp) $5,000 or more, and it’s best to order two weeks in advance.

Isn't one of the main points of dessert tasteful decadence? More than often it is very appropriate! I don't know where to begin about how talented these people are. I feel so grateful to have discovered in Flickr such a creative group that makes something that creates smiles, even after the cake is gone. I am an artist and designer learned in the traditions of Florentine design values (member of The Italian Design Association), and have always had ideas about edible art for various projects. How refreshing to discover this site, if only to know there are people out in commerce who are bringing home quality! When you consider that you are what you eat, I REALLY want to eat (Rose) CAKE!
