As a high school student, Derek Fitzhenry competed in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He went on to play college football while studying social sciences and physical education at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with his bachelor of applied science in 1990. Derek Fitzhenry subsequently earned a master of education from Texas A&M at Prairie View and a master of educational leadership from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Mr. Fitzhenry’s professional history includes positions as an assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator with Odessa Permian High School in Odessa, Texas, and an athletic director for the Giddings Independent School District in Giddings, Texas. He also served Giddings as head football coach, delivering 21 championships and a first place Central Texas finish in the Lone Star Cup. Derek Fitzhenry currently serves as the assistant head football coach and coordinates strength and conditioning training for 12 different girls and boys sports teams within the Galena Park Independent School District in Houston
