I was born in Paris, (a small village in Ukraine). In winter. as a young child whilst on a high railway embankment, I fell down into very deep snow. The last thing I saw through the thickness of white was an image of the black sun. Fortunately, I was to be rescued and revived by strangers passing by. At school, before the ice-hockey tournament started, it was a tradition to name your new hockey stick. To do this I took a dictionary, closed my eyes, and pointed randomly at any page. The word still-life turned up by chance. That was to be the name of my hockey stick! At around that time I got a camera in my hands, but shot everything, except still-life. It became a constant companion. On emigrating, I started making Still- Life photographs. This format opened up a new door unto a world of imagery which was both familiar, and unfamiliar, yet able to be reconfigured. The works I made suggested secrets, symbolism, and narratives in a fresh guise, through which, I sort to explore my own sensibilities to some of the mysteries to Life and our journey through it. Presently my heart beats from the Channel Isles, but my soul at night is free to journey wherever it wants to go
