The Nansen Legacy is a large research project with ten Norwegian partner institutions, whose aim is to provide integrated scientific knowledge on the rapidly changing marine climate and ecosystem in the northern Barents Sea. The project runs from 2018 until 2023, and is funded by the Research Council of Norway and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. They provide 50% of the budget while the participating institutions contribute 50% in-kind. The total budget for the Nansen Legacy project is 740 mill. NOK.

Arven etter Nansen er et gigantisk forskningsprosjekt som startet i januar 2018 og som over seks år skal kartlegge det nordlige Barentshavet. Ti statlige institusjoner og over 140 forskere samarbeider om prosjektet, med en budsjettramme på 740 millioner kroner. Aldri tidligere i Norge har så mange forskere jobbet sammen i ett og samme prosjekt. Storsatsingen finansieres av forskningsinstitusjonene selv, Forskningsrådet og Kunnskapsdepartementet.
