I am a professional entomologist and taxonomic authority in Lepidoptera of Colombia, with 50 years of experience, being a pioneer in the study and conservation of butterflies of Colombia. I have discovered and described more than 150 species new to science, increasing the diversity of butterflies to 3800 known species in Colombia, the richest country in diversity of butterflies. My research focus in the taxonomy, biology and ecology of butterflies in projects of breeding for purposes of exhibition and conservation. I am co-author of the book series: Butterflies of Colombia, the red data book of arthropods of Colombia, author of more than 140 scientific publications and 10 books, winner of several national and international awards in entomology and insect photography. Two new species of butterflies that I have discovered have been dedicated to me and bear my name: Philaethria constantinoi and Elecrtrostrymon constantinoi. I am the author of the new butterfly genera Megoleria 1999 (Ithomiinae), Paraspiculatus 1997 (Lycaenidae), Johnsonita, 1995 (Lycaenidae), Paradulcedo, 1992 (Satyrinae), Rydonia, Annagrapha, Pseudocharaxes, Muyshondtia and Zikania, 2001 (Nymphalidae: Charaxinae) for Southamerica, which have helped to better understand the taxonomy and phylogenetic relationships of these insects. Among my main research studies on butterflies from Colombia are: field guide of the butterflies of the central coffee zone of Colombia, Common butterflies of the central cordillera of Colombia, Butterflies of the middle Magdalena river, el encanto de las mariposas de Colombia, the book: butterflies of Colombia: volume one: family Papilionidae; the book: butterflies of Colombia: volume two: family Pieridae, Revision of the tribe Haeterini (Satyrinae), Revision of the subfamily Charaxinae, revision of the family Lycaenidae, revision of the genus Atlides (Lycaenidae), revision of the genus Paraspiculatus (Lycaenidae), revision of the genus Megoleria (Ithomiinae), revision of the genus Napeogenes (Ithomiinae), revision of the genus Theorema (Lycaenidae), revision of the genus Mesosemia (Riodinidae), Revision of the genus Necyria (Riodinidae), Revision of the genus Ancyluris (Riodinidae), Revision of the genus Argyrogrammana (Riodinidae), revision of the genus Siseme (Riodinidae), revision of the genus Anteros (Riodinidae), Revision of the genus Euselasia (Riodinidae), revision of the genus Philaethria (Heliconiinae), revision of the genus Antirrhea and Caeoris (Morphinae), revision of the genus Colobura (Nymphalidae) among others.Regarding coleopterans, I am the author of the field guide of dung beetles of the Colombian coffee zone, revision of the genus Plagiohammus (Cerambycidae), author and co-author of numerous research works on pest and beneficial insects of the coffee growing region of Colombia, co-author of the Colombian coffee grower manual, the book on natural control of insects in the coffee agroecosystem, the book on insects and their management in Colombian coffee growing region, the book on sustainable management of the pejibaye palm crop, the main pests of the pejibaye palm crop and the description of new pests of this crop. However with the destruction of forests, many of the insect populations are in danger of extinction. The objective of this photo gallery is to document the diversity of species of butterflies and insects that inhabit Colombia through in situ photography, including newer and rarer species photographed in the field from many different places in the country.

Wonderful Photo Gallery ..................................... Fantastic Pictures
Your photo gallery is really exceptional. I like to take pictures of insects or spiders in France but I am not a specialist and I am amazed by the brilliant colours of your photos of colombian insects. The composition of your pictures is also always perfect. Congrats.
