Behind the lens of Alice van Kempen
I feel thoroughly connected with nature, whether it’s in my own garden surrounded by my dogs, in abandoned buildings where nature takes back what belonged to her in the first place or in the African bush surrounded by wildlife. I explore, discover, question, analyze, connect and experiment. Nature is my passion, my love and understanding of nature inspires me throughout my creative process. I am a photographer, writer, publisher and artist, not necessarily in that order. For years I told people that I was a photographer, now I would say “I’m an artist, photography is my medium and nature is my studio”.
As an artist, I have the distinct ability to take something and make it my own. Art for me is something that has ambitions, about depth of meaning or originality. Next to my wildlife and dog photographs I am working on an on-going, one of a kind, series of Furbex photographs. One of my dogs photographed as a model in abandoned places throughout Europe. Urbex photography with a furry twist. A successful twist as the photograpsh did very well recently in International competitions; First prize International Photography Award 2017, selected finalist at the 2017 Xposure International Photography Competition, finalist and winner of the publics prize of the Vincent van Gogh Award 2017.
