Is there a God? And what can we know about Him? Look at a building, painting, book, or another man-made object. It is not necessary to see the designer of the object to know that it was designed. The object itself is evidence of its design. Now look at creation (trees, flowers, birds, fish, dogs, hands, teeth...) it shows there is a creator, just as a building shows that there was a builder.
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind."
(Job 12 7-10)
Are we in the right relationship with this creator?
Have you kept God's commandments, let's look at a few:
Have you ever lied?
Have you ever stolen? (value is not important, it is about the intent).
Have you coveted? (desired something that is not yours)
Have you looked upon someone with lust? (Jesus said, "whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.")
After looking at just four of the commandments, have you kept them all with perfection?
God says that "there is no one that does good, no not one" (Romans 3:10). We are all deserving of eternal punishment because we have sinned against an infinitely holy, just, and righteous God. God sees and remembers all of our actions, words, and thoughts. "on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37).
There is hope, however.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to take our punishment for us. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and then died on a cross and arose three days later. If we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus, He will take away our sins and credit to us His righteousness. Then we are forgiven of our sin by the redemption that is only found in Jesus Christ.
