Hello and thank you for visiting. By trade, I'm a college professor, but, by moonlight (or, should I say, sunlight?), I'm the photographic artist, Ophelio. Though I'm apt to photograph anything that captures my attention, my most profound love is nature. And even though some of my earliest memories were of living in a public housing project, my earliest interactions with nature were as a tree-climbing, bee-catching, bird-watching toddler. As I look back on it, these earliest interactions were the only escape I had from a concrete jungle. A bit later, when I was just six years old, I embarked on my lifelong adventure in birding by following a pair of mourning doves for a year, journaling their behavior and bond to each other. Now, several decades later, I passionately capture and painstakingly compose (mostly) natural moments that I find both grounding and moving. My hope is that my works will inspire you, bring some measure of levity and peace to your life, and provoke you to seek a richer appreciation of the world around us.
