Why do I like photography?
Well, apart from the fact that I can’t sing, play a musical instrument or draw or paint, it’s a world that I fell into during the mid 70s.
For some reason mum was showing me some old family photos that sparked my interest. For Christmas I was given a “point and shoot” Kodak and didn’t really know what I was doing and that those blurred pictures of someone’s foot was going to cost mum or dad money when the film was developed.
The National Geographic magazine sold me on the idea that photography was going to be more than a passing phase. An after-hours class at high school started to lift the veil on this new hobby.
For me, photography is in part about preserving memories, emotions, or fleeting scenes. It can be about story telling or just being in a moment. It is about learning. How to use new equipment, experimenting with settings, and using editing software.
It is a solitary hobby, although it’s great to share time with like-minded people and listen to their experiences, and maybe share your own......
