I grew up on a 100 acre farm near Red Bluff in northern California. After college (BA in History) I lived on a cattle ranch in the foothills near St Helena, drove a truck, worked as a cook etc., and then went back to school for a MA in Biogeography & a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology. I lived in the Kern River Valley for about 10 years where I managed a wildlife research center. For 10 years I managed an 8000 acre wildlife habitat restoration project for BLM on the "shores" of Tulare Lake - once the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River and now completely dry. In November 2011 I took a position with US Fish and Wildlife Service in Sacramento where I'm now living, I did a lot of photography in the 1970s, and then started up again about 9 years ago. I'm having great fun with it and am really enjoying making some interesting images. For the past three years I've been living in Red Bluff, CA and working for Bureau of Land Management in Redding.
