Formula UBC is an engineering student team that competes in the international Formula SAE (FSAE) Collegiate design series and has been active for the past 25 years. The competition concept is that a fictitious company has hired a team to design and build a prototype vehicle to be evaluated for production. The car is judged on: a business plan, overall engineering design, production cost, and finally is raced to evaluate performance. The competition puts students in a real world situation where research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, managing and fund raising are all major considerations. A volunteer run team of 30-40 students from various undergraduate and graduate engineering disciplines as well as select other faculties make this project a reality. Each year, a new chassis must be fabricated. This leads to most components being redesigned and improved upon each year.
