"Make collage great again!"

Stefan Schweikle is a surrealist collage-artist and beat-maker from Darmstadt in Germany, frenetically celebrating works from Max Ernst to Jesse Treece. He spent his half youth as a hardcore Graffiti artist, now he works with a razor blade, that allows to be much more detailed than with scissors: “It is more like drawing on the paper, having less distance to the elements”. His oeuvre contains a wide spectrum from fantastic landscaping replacements, black and white sketches to abstract murals, where content is completely disappearing underneath shape and color, drawn into the mere aesthetic value. Disconnecting the single element from its every day association and put it into a new context, well: that’s what collages usually do. A great collage will rip your head open and confuse your eyes. He states that two thirds of his collages are “just for fun, like putting tribal life into deep space. Has been there a billion times before, but I can never get enough of it. Its so great doing it, but I separate those from the more serious works, where the content of a single object dissolves into something more groovy. Its actually only about swing, proportion, color. I like the fuzzy atmosphere of dawn and night, in which the objects of everyday reality disappear and something magic is happening.”
