I am a Canadian fibre artist/author living in the southwest area of Colorado. I have been involved in photography for forty five years. I am an art and fibre art teacher. Currently I am using my camera as part of my art process. The images are scanned, manipulated in Photoshop and then printed onto silk fabric. Viewers can see my work on my websight www.judithbakermontano.com
I was a foreign (Canadian) student, graduating from The University of California at Chico with a degree in art and journalism. I Then spent seven years overseas living in England, Japan and Germany. It was an eye opener, living in other countries and it affected my art work and my outlook on life.
I joined flickr at the encouragement of my son and daughter. We use it to keep in touch and it is a daily way to say hello. Now it is a huge web of family, friends and contacts.
Through Flickr I realized that I could use it to archive a lot of my shots that are dear to me and some that I use in my books.....Due to my age and time frame most of my work is on film or slide. I realize that I have to get all my "good" photos scanned and into my computer archives! Right now everything is going into flickr but I realize that I have to be more selective.... I especialy litke the "sets" which helps me to catagorize my photos.
I am a huge Canon fan and have used a Canon camera for over thirty years. At the urging of an Aussie friend, Alan Carter, who was a war photographer in Vietnam, I purchased my first Canon EOS 10QD and stayed with that camera til four years ago. I literally wore out the case of my first EOS10, and then purchased two second hand EOs 10's ( one in Tokyo and one in Sydney.)
I still think the Canon EOS10QD is one of the best all around cameras Canon ever made!!
Because I write books and some of my photographs are used in my books....I had to go digital in order to keep up!!!! I purchased a Canon EOS Rebel and the learning curve was very shallow....It was the same camera body with the same dials, and set up. You still look thru the viewer to set up your photo....and all my old lenses fit!!!
Now I use the upgrade Canon EOS digital REBEL XT with a Canon battery grip BG-E3 which hold two batteries!! I also splurged and purchased a Canon Zoom Lens, EF 17-40 mm and a Canon 100mm. macro.
The bottom line is....anyone can go out and buy expensive cameras and all the bells and whistles but if they do not have a good eye.... they do not take good photographs. By just observing the basic rules of painting....anyone can learn to take a good photograph.
Through Flickr I am learning so much by observing other people's photographs and listening to their suggestions. I really enjoy the fact that my contacts are from all corners of the world.

Jude is a great photographer and cares for nature and the environment. She also cares about preserving the past. I think her photos are quite wonderful. She is an inspiration to me. I consider her one of Flickr's very best photographers and writers.
