Welcome to my flickr space - my Megalithic Portfolio.

It is an ever growing collection of pages of megalithic sites that I have visited and photographed in the UK and beyond.

I am no archaeologist or historian and have little knowledge of how these amazing places were used, but it is very obvious that these sites were carefully chosen within their landscapes and an incredible amount of human effort was used in their construction. Some are settlements with hut circles, some are burial chambers which are both fairly self explanatory, there are many single standing stones or menhirs, perhaps way markers on ancient tracks, there are stone rows and circles perhaps created for astronomical research, religious reasons or perhaps meeting places or even games arenas. Irrelevant of scale, I find each as interesting as the next. There are certain similarities between many sites up and down the country, but then some have certain unique features, but one common factor is that they all command the landscape they stand in even when modern roads, towns and villages encroach on them. Many have stood for thousands of years and will still be around for numerous future generations to enjoy, puzzle and speculate over.

I hope you enjoy thumbing through my pages.

Cheers, Trev
