“There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.”

-Ernst Haas

Looking at this quote, it tells me that even though I have to borrow cameras here and there, if I have it in me, I can still take great meaningful photos. While I do not take pictures that often, because of the photo workshop that I have taken, I feel that I have grown significantly over the past few months. As each week passes by, I learn more and more about how a camera works and how I can manipulate each picture using Photoshop. Whether it was Composition or Advanced Photoshop Techniques, I always learn at least one thing every day, and this helps me in becoming a more successful photographer.

While I am taking/editing photos, I have found some things that define me as a photographer. For one, I really dislike taking pictures of people. I don’t know what it is, it is just that there is something in me that is just like, “no, don’t like.” I have also found that I really like to take pictures of animals and still life. This is because there is something about them that just draws me in, and I just want to capture the moment. Now when I take a photo, the thing that I have, is that it doesn’t feel mine until I change it up a bit in Photoshop. I use Photoshop compulsively, and I really feel that it is what makes my pictures interesting. The very idea of manipulating photos to look like whatever you want, makes me feel glad that such a program exists.

For the future, I am planning to do many things, and I hope that they are at least a bit successful. One thing that I hope to do is to pursue a career in movie making. There is something about that, that seems very interesting, and I would really like being able to create something that people enjoy to look at. Another thing that I have planned for the future, is that I want to take a few more photography/video class, and possibly, even a class in adv. Photoshop. This is because I want to know as much as I can about photography and taking videos before I move to pursuing a degree. This past year has been a very interesting one, and I hope the future has something related.

The camera that I use is a Canon EOS REBEL T3.

Ryan Swab says:

Ian Seavy is easily the best photographer in our class. Ian makes interesting and unique photos, with a mix of themes. Some somber, and some silly.
