From the start of my Intro to Digital Photography class, I realized that a part of me was made for art. I’ve never been the kind of person who really took interest in any kind of direct art such as drawing and painting. However, ever since I was little, I taught myself through pictures. I took interest in every little detail: every expression and every pattern. I loved pictures, but I never thought that I would find so much interest in being the person behind the camera. Fortunately, this year I found my strong suit. A single day in this photography class and I decided to spend my savings on a good camera (P530 Nikon Coolpix.) On the second day of photography class, I got on the ground and took a picture of my friend’s feet. When this photo received photo of the week, I knew that this wasn’t gonna be a subject that I would give up anytime soon.

I love taking photos in general, but after experiencing different ways of taking photos, I found what I love doing the most. Portraits that are from an interesting perspective with a moody expression are my favorite kind of pictures to create. Not only is it a fun process to get the right kind of picture, but spending extra time in making sure that the picture is interesting is a challenge that I know is going to help me in the long run. While crazy color distracts me, I like dull, mysterious pictures, and those are the kind of pictures that I really want to work on now and improve on in the future. For example, my favorite picture that I have taken so far gives a very mysterious vibe. The process of creating this photo was simply telling my best friend to put a boa on her head and smile. I found the right crop and bam... An extremely interesting picture. So far this “hobby” has taught me about myself more than any other experience that I’ve had. I definitely want to go far with photography.
