About Graeme: Qualified and experienced electronic engineer now practicing as an ICT manager in the education sector, based in East Central Scotland. In my spare time I have various hobbies. One of my main interests is getting to the great outdoors. Hill walking with a particular emphasis on bagging Ordnance Survey triangulation pillars. I have visited over 2,600 of these pillar locations. Triangulation pillars are usually located at good viewpoints. The original purpose of these concrete pillars was to serve as stable control markers for map surveying. The reference number I use in each image title is the unique physical flush bracket number as emplaced on almost every triangulation pillar. The quality of my images will vary, I am at the mercy of the Scottish weather.
Another topic in my Flickr collection are many photographs of Edinburgh Streetscape. There are photos from the 1980s onwards. This peaked between 2018 and 2021 when Edinburgh's streetlighting stock was about to be converted from (mainly) sodium discharge lamps to solid state LED. My aim being to capture the old technology before it became historic.
Stemming from another interest, also related to local history, I have recently added some extracts from historic maps detailing the construction of southern Morningside, Edinburgh from around 1882 to the 1930s. There are maps for most years. Detailed captions of what was built when are in the process of being written for each map, an ongoing project when time permits.
In line with my love for good music, my latest additions to my Flickr albums are of video footage taken while patronising some city centre music venues. I also play the piano to a limited extent. There are movie clips of these attempts in existence - these might make their way onto Flickr one day.
