Hello. I’m an amateur photographer living in West Sussex. My interest in photography began in the early 1980s with an analogue SLR camera, and I’ve never looked back. Career and subsequently parenthood meant that this particular hobby had to take something of a back seat for several years. However, I got back into photography in 2015, purchasing a digital SLR camera, joining a camera club, and creating a Flickr account.
After finding my feet in the digital age and enjoying some success at camera club competitions before the pandemic, my main current project/challenge is taking a photo per day, which I’ve been doing since 1 January 2022. I would love to be taking prize-winning-level photographs every day for this project, but the priorities of my family and a full-time job (and working from home since the pandemic) mean that I don’t always have the time or opportunity to hunt for, and capture, high-quality images. I do the best I can, using either my digital SLR camera or, more often than not, my smartphone camera. I post the same images on my Flickr and Instagram accounts. Hopefully, you will find a few gems among the 365 pictures I post every year.
I like to show variety, so will try and shoot different images, however quirky they may be. The photo per day challenge has certainly sharpened my eye for subject matter, and this can be anything including wildlife, landscapes, urban, people, or still life. Of these, probably people/portraiture interests me the most, so maybe this is a genre of photography I will pursue more in the future. Importantly, this challenge forces me to shoot an image every day, even if the quality may not be the greatest, rather than only dig my camera(s) out every few months for a photoshoot. Hope you enjoy looking at my images!
