I've been taking photos since I was 13. But I have been around trains since my childhood in CT during the final 10 years of the New Haven as my father was also a fan since boyhood.
My favorite railroads are New Haven , New York Central, Pennsylvania and by proxy Penn Central and Conrail. I also loved the Southern Pacific ,because it was beat up and grimy like PC , with old battered diesels and somewhat better scenery .Other favorites include the Santa Fe in its final years, and the motley , ratty pre-Guilford B&M
.In 2015 I returned to rail photography, after a 15 year hiatus brought on by anger at the demise of Conrail
I love the ex Conrail sections of NS , as I am somewhat saddened by the ex Conrail sections of CSX which seemed to have been deliberately stripped of their character.
I've become much more interested in short lines because of the vintage motive power they operate and like my father's generation before me, I look back wistfully at the motive power of my youth. (ALCO's U-BOATS and even EMD 567 and 645 power models )
I like to take in the whole scene in my photographic compositions , sometime making the train a part of the whole scene and the emotions these scenes can invoke.
My page is a reflection of my experiences as a fan, both new and old , told as I remember ..hopefully you'll enjoy them ..
