I am a Costa Rican photographer. I shot film for 50 years and digital for the past 15. I mostly do candid street portraiture here in San Jose. Sadly publishing my photos without the express written consent of all people who can be readily identified in each photo is against the law here. So the only Costa Rican shots you will see in my public section have no recognizable faces. Other shots are old and/ or from different locations.

I do have private albums which I usually send invitations to people so that they can view them. If I haven't sent one to you, I will happily send one if you ask. In these albums I have ALL of my street photography.

From my 65 years of shooting I have developed a fine disregard for the photographic conventions of the day. I ignore the thirds rule. I use for the most part small sensor cameras and am happy to exchange some noise for the flexibility of smaller faster cameras. I do not particularly like bokeh in candid street portraiture and am much happier with having deep focus, (placing my subjects contextually within their environment rather than taking them out of it) as that is how my eyes see. My photographs will be more like those that came out of my dark room during the film days and much less like the heavily stylized street photos that are popular today.

I hope that these things do not bother my viewers and that they can at least to some degree enjoy the results of my photographic style.
