Hi, I'm Ash.

Thanks for taking a look at my photos. I bought my camera in April 2015 as a new hobby, and to give my bicycle rides a little more interest. Not looking to become professional, just having fun and enjoying the outdoors!

I live near Cardiff in South Wales, and am surrounded by nature spots which is fab, such as Cosmeston Lakes, Cardiff Bay Wetlands, Forest Farm and Lavernock Point reserve. Within an hours drive I also have the Brecon Beacons, Slimbridge and Llanelli WWT reserves. I really enjoy taking photos of animals, but am interested in pretty much all types of photography probably with the exception of portraiture. Not that I wont one day give it a shot!

I use a Nikon D5200 and have the lens it came with (18-55mm VR) with a polarizing filter and 10 stop ND filter for landscapes, but the lens I use the most is a Tamron 70-300mm. For £100 it was a bargain (bought new too!). Pretty much all my nature photography has been done with it, including the "macro" shots of insects and bugs.

I shoot in RAW, and use the ViewNX2 software that came with the camera to check the contrast/brightness/cropping etc. I also use Fusion software (its free too!) for "HDR" shots such as the the one of Penarth pier. I also have GIMP (again free software) which I've only used a little bit for removing light pollution from my night shots.
