Tabitha Whitley was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She studied painting at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she earned a BFA, and at the New York Academy of Art for her MFA. At the NY Academy she was educated in classical drawing, painting and sculpting techniques and studied with contemporary artists such as Will Cotton and Jenny Saville. Using her formal education, Tabitha combines traditional techniques and materials to represent the contemporary world she lives in. She draws inspiration from art, fashion, nature and the human figure. By studying and observing the objects she paints, she tries to express her feelings and relationships with them; she pays a high degree of attention to detail to describe the character of that particular subject. Using her materials to express the awe she feels at the beauty of the object she is rendering. Tabitha currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and continues to show her work in galleries around NYC.
