Mario Simoes grew up in Portugal where he studied art and ecclesiastical restoration. He has apprenticed as a wood grainer and has a profound understanding of guilding. He specialized in painting and restoring older homes and churches and developed a unique understanding of materials and surfaces. He moved to the United States in 1984 and continued his art of restoration and painting.
