After serving as the UN Special Representative for Iraq, I have been appointed as the new UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process. Previously I served as my country's Foreign (2009-2013) and Defence (2009-2010) Minister, a member of the European Parliament (2007-2009) and the National Assembly (2001-2005).

I love my family, my country, and I believe that we all people have the right to freedom, human rights and representative government.

I hate war and that is why I studied it at King's College in London and have dedicated my life to resolving conflicts.

I am a workaholic, love reading history, travelling and staying fit.

I've been called many things, but recently started to think of myself as a paranoid optimist.
