My name is Patrick O'Hare and I live in the Southwest area of Virginia. Besides photography I love to play the guitar, music, brewing beer, reading/research, coffee, and animals.
I suppose I have always had an interest in photography. I remember the days of my youth with a disposable film camera that I would have to send off to be developed. I didn't care what I was taking a picture of, I just enjoyed doing it. Some rolls of film were a total waste of money, filled with close up shots of goofy faces and out of focus shots of me or my cousins doing silly things. I would always love going on vacation just so we could stop and buy a few of those disposable cameras for our trip.
As I got older and the transition to digital photography was happening, I started taking less pictures. Part of it was I couldn't afford a digital camera and neither could my parents. We did eventually get one, when I was in high school, but it just wasn't the same to me. neither I had fun with both but something just wasn't captivating me. My interest pandered off and on again for about 10 years after that...
Then last year, my interest in photography was sparked again. I had asked my dad about my grandfather's camera. I had always heard it was a great one and that we had it. Little did I know that it was a Leica M3 with the Summicron f/2.0 50mm Dual Range Lens that he bought back in 1958. That camera was then handed down to my dad, he used it for many years for his own photography. When I found it in the house, my dad handed it down to me.
This was the spark that I was missing. Something not instantaneous, something raw, something with history, something I could cherish and pass down to my own children one day as it was to me, a tool I could use to capture the life around me.
I am still finding my photography style, and experimenting with it every time I bring my camera with me somewhere. It is something that will never be perfected but something I love to work on. I hope that you enjoy my work, and I thank you for your views, comments, and faves, but photography is something for me, and a vision I wish to share with you as well.
