Wembley Park is a dynamic new cultural neighborhood in North West London. Building on the international reputation for music and sporting events for which the area is known, Wembley Park has become a landmark destination with culture, entertainment and a community at its heart. It includes homes, shops, and places to work, as well as attractive public spaces, with parks and gardens adding to the squares and wide boulevards already created. When completed, nearly half of the 85-acre site will be open space.
The opening of the new Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre is a key moment in the transformation of the area as it establishes its credentials as a new creative hub for North West London. The partnership between developer Quintain and Troubadour forms part of Wembley Park’s ambitious cultural strategy, which includes extensive cultural programming and events for all ages, most of which are available free of charge. Other key cultural launches this year have included the Getty Images Gallery, Wembley Park, with its first exhibition ‘The Ages of Wembley’ opening the new gallery space on Olympic Way in June.
Wembley Park is a great family-friendly destination, with fantastic shopping at London Designer Outlet (LDO), easy parking and four hotels. LDO includes 70 shops and restaurants such as TGI Friday’s, Pizza Express, Moe’s Diner, Frankie and Benny’s, a 9‐screen Cineworld cinema and is also home to Haribo, Claire’s Accessories, Hamleys and Lindt outlet shops among others. Opposite LDO is the all-weather adventure play park, with roundabouts, slides, shoots and climbing frames, this covered play area has proved hugely popular with children and families. This summer kids are able to be part of the musical story of Wembley Park, with a series of huge colourful sculptures called Massive Choon that have popped up across the neighbourhood.
Just 12 minutes from Baker Street, Wembley Park has excellent transport connections to central London via the Jubilee and Metropolitan tube lines and overground from Wembley Stadium station.
Boxpark Wembley, the largest Boxpark to date opened in 2018, bringing independent and established streetfood traders to the area, as well as 200 events throughout the year. Black Sheep Coffee opened in autumn 2018, and will be followed by a range of independent shops opening around the neighbourhood’s new high streets and public spaces from spring 2019. Combining lifestyle, fashion, food, arts and crafts, and health and wellness, the newly opened Wembley Park Market brings together world-class independent brands, unique products and most importantly, people.
2019 will see the launch of Wembley Park Arts, with an independent curatorial team raising the scale and ambition of cultural programming for the neighbourhood. Wembley Park is currently looking for their first Cultural Director to lead this programme, which will include leadership across commissioning, co-production, cultural infrastructure as well as developing local, national and international partnerships. Wembley Park is a key strategic partner of Brent London Borough of Culture 2020 and will be one of the primary focusses of attention during UEFA Euro 2020.
With 6,100 new homes being created by developer Quintain, in addition to the 1,400 already built, Wembley Park is one of Europe’s largest and most exciting development schemes. Around 5,000 of the homes being created at Wembley Park are build-to-rent properties managed by Tipi, Quintain’s lifestyle-focused rental management brand, which also overseas management of resident lounge spaces and services.
Wembley Park is a new urban heart for the London Borough of Brent, with primary and nursery schools and a GP surgery being built. Brent Civic Centre, including Wembley Library and the council offices, was built in 2012. A new purpose built community centre, The Yellow opened in 2018, and provides an extensive weekly programme of community activities, ranging from urban gardening to Indian classical dance.
