In late 2014 I discovered light painting purely by accident. It ignited my initial interest in this form of photography. As I was drawn further down the rabbit hole, my addiction grew. Lightpainting taught me how to use a camera, what f-Stop meant, ISO and depth of field and most importantly what can be done with long exposure photography

Initially it was all about light as the subject, Simple orbs and shapes, in time that grew into placing the light in a scene. I then started to get into camera rotation in a big way. I was hooked. Trying new techniques, mixing them together, seeing what could be done. I met up with experienced lightpainters from all over the world, but it was the UK guys that taught me the most, Lens capping, custom white balances and double exposures in a single frame. It is not just a click of the shutter and a quick photo, some photos can last for an age. The challenge for me is getting everything done in a single frame.

More recently I have been concentrating on lighting the subject, predominantly memorials, statues, ruins and buildings. Lighting them to a level where minimal post production is required. I use different light sources but prefer light from above. I mount lights on a drone which allows me to get completely different angles of light, it gives the image a completely different feel to that obtained from a handheld torch.

The ever expanding list of subjects to shoot means I travel quite a lot for sometimes one photo that ticks the box for me regarding quality of the lighting.

The majority of my images are straight out of the camera, however as I travel further and further to get the shots I want, sometimes when I get home some simple adjustments need to be made.
