Normally, I don’t post political-type photos, but these are no longer ‘normal’ times !

Around the world, more democracies are being challenged by those with autocratic

aspirations for complete domination of their citizens & other countries.

Divisions in society have been amped up. While most of us long for peace & unity,

it’s not always possible when gross injustices arise, threatening entire nations.

As Elie Wiesel, holocaust survivor, professor & Nobel Laureate says,

“Always take sides.

Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.

Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Let’s not forget that in 1930s Nazi Germany:

IT DIDN’T START WITH GAS CHAMBERS.

It started with 1 party deciding what is “truth”—

1 party censoring speech & stifling opposition.

1 party dividing its citizens into “us” vs “them

& calling on their supporters to harass “them”.

It started when good people turned a blind eye

& let it happen.

So occasionally, to encourage democratic, peaceful resistance,

I turn my focus to these issues, featured as well in

my Politico, O Canada, & Ukrainian GALLERIES.

Otherwise, we still need that counterbalance of Beauty, Humour,

& Compassion in our lives that does unite us, and,

reminds us of what we are fighting to uphold & advance.
