Keen photographer with a City and Guilds in photography. I also love cycling whenever I have the time and weather to enjoy it. I also have an interest in trains, buses and ships along with motorsport in the form of sprints and hillclimbs.
My enjoyment of watching Irish dancing and listening to traditional Irish music led me to start photographing the dancers. That lasted several years but age and family caught up on me meaning that I had to reduce my activities.
My other interests, as noted above, fall neatly into more opportunities for photography. My youngest son and I go to the hillclimbs near us and I have a nephew who competes. I do like landscape photography but my first love in portraiture. I used to do wedding photography before digital came about and everybody became an expert photographer the minute they got their first digital camera. I still dabble in 35mm photography and am the proud owner of a Nikon F801s with a Sigma 28-105mm zoom. The zoom is lighter than the body! They are an absolute delight to use and I am totally delighted with the results from this camera. I use a Panasonic Lumix G7 with a 12-60 zoom for my digital photography and I marvel at how so much can be packed into so small a camera. It's so handy with a choice of modes and formats. I still have a Sony Cybershot R1 dating from 2005. It has a 14.3–71.5 mm Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens, providing for an angle of view equivalent to 24–120 mm on a full frame camera. It's resting these days but it produces truly excellent photographs. The Panasonic is 2/3rds the weight of the Sony.
I enjoy seeing other photographers' work and I have my favourites whose work I truly admire. It would be mainly portraiture, which is my first love.
