I love mono and am still hanging onto film for all my worth, but I am occasionally taking photo's on digital these days. I prefer manual cameras with prime lenses over zooms and computer controlled automation. Medium format is a particular passion of mine due to the high definition, low grain images it produces.

I believe in getting the picture right in the camera, and very rarely crop my images. The only manipulation any of my pictures receive is spotting to remove dust marks from scanned negatives and occasionally a minor tweak to contrast.

I also dip into my archive of negatives and slides from years back (I've been interested in photography since the mid 1990's) and am loading up a few more colour photos to Flickr of late, in between shooting and posting new stuff (which is largely black and white with the odd roll of colour when the mood takes me).

I learned a lot and my photography changed during working my way through a project entitled Z to A, where I challenged myself once each week to use a different camera (some owned, some borrowed, and some bought and then resold), with one roll of film and then tried to find new viewpoints in familiar locations.

Recently, I have started work on a new project to revisit the same idea, using my favourite cameras from the first project, and returning to some of my favourite locations from that time. However, this time I'm doing it with colour negative film...

To give my photography a direction, I have also started work on a second project entitled 'Small Town Northumberland' recording details from within and around some of the many small towns in my home county in northern England. This will run concurrently with the colour project, and ultimately will take quite some time... ( a second Z to A project also followed on from this, with an intention to visit different locations to the first time and using more cameras that have come my way since doing the first Z to A).

Due to the pandemic during 2020/21 progress on my projects had wained somewhat, but I continued to take photos when and where I could.

Work on the second Z to A project has now resumed, with another twenty or so cameras to be included this time around...

Many beautiful photographs, especially black and white that I love, beautifully composed with just enough grain.
