It feels as if photography has always been a part of my life. My father worked as a photographer on cruise ships in the 1950’s and my first real job was managing photo-processing laboratories back when it was all wet work!
My obsession with outdoor pursuits began at about 19 years old when I made my first trip to the Himalayas. Since then I have climbed and hiked in the European Alps, Pyrenees, Africa and the USA. I have returned to the Himalayas several times and developed a love affair with wilderness backpacking in the Rocky Mountains.
Photography for me was just a means of recording my trips for posterity but in 2010 a shoulder injury put paid to my climbing life for good.
However, slowing down meant that I began to see things in a different way and I learned to appreciate the beauty of the landscape in a different way.
In 2016 I became a graduate of the Photographic Institute and my landscape photography work received a commendation. I also bought a property in the North Pennines and in 2017 my wife and I moved up here.
I am inspired by the bleak, stark beauty of this magnificent, remote rural moorland and try to convey that beauty through my photographic work.
My images are still regularly used by the National Trust in the Midlands (where I used to live) and appear on social media, advertising and shop produce.
In 2019 I had my first exhibition and started running landscape photography workshops.
